Madeline Braxton: Where is She Now?

From Madeline;

Hi! ๐Ÿ™‚

Just a little update on my life: I am so happy to say that as of May, I am a UNC-Greensboro alum with a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography. I loved every minute of my time in the dance school, learning and growing with such a wonderful community of people. Following graduation, I attended the American Dance Festival as a scholarship student and studied from incredible artists and movers, with whom I hope to work again with in the near future. In the meantime, you can catch me working at The Root in Elon, teaching ballet in Pleasant Garden (or having coffee after rehearsals at Joe Van Gogh). I am currently working on a project with The Raina Lucas Dance & Co-Lab, a company based in Durham. We will be presenting a piece in the Tobacco Road Dance Production this coming April. Although I would have never known it back in the days of Nutcracker and Winter Concerts, dancing has become my world and I am so blessed to have the opportunity to make it my career.

My advice to young dancers comes from a quote of one of my favorite autobiographies:

“Movement never lies” -Martha Graham, Blood Memory

Dance requires honesty, patience, and a lot of work; but when you find a balance within all of the hard stuff, you get to experience this incredible feeling of accomplishment. And when you are truly enjoying yourself, whether it be on stage or at the barre, you’ll shine. In other words, give it your all, trust your body, and have fun!
